Painted Pottery

I have never thought about painting my pottery until I could not have my ceramic works high fired during the time period when school's gas kilns were being replaced. Then, I experimented with painting the low fired clay figures with acrylic and oil. I like the richness of oil paints, which also gives the clay pieces an illusionary surface. I then began to intentionally create multiple illusions within ceramic works.

Oil on Fired Clay

It looks like a figure but not quite. It could be a monk, but it also has pocket and fringe on it which is quite femininistic. It is made of hard material, but has fabric like decoration on it. It is ceramics, but looks like bronze too. The multiple push-and-pulls carried with this blue ceramic work make it mysterious, strange and awkward
